IT was a cold and blustery playing field which hosted a charity football match in Wrose on Saturday which raised money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event was organised by Paul Loat, landlord of the Bold Privateer, in Wrose, along with friends Danny Neylon and Michael Davis.

All three men are taking part in the ‘Sober October’ challenge and a number of events have been taking place to raise funds.

Saturday’s match was between the pub’s team, the Priv Lions, and bar staff and friends, Soberteers.

Mr Neylon, playing as striker, opened the scoring for the Soberteers, but saw his team, playing in yellow, go down 9-4 at the final whistle.

“It was a great day. We did well to say our team was mainly bar staff. We want to give a special thanks to landlord Ron Parker, from the Malt Kiln, in Idle Road, who came along to play for us.”

On Saturday, October 28, the Bold Privateer is holding a Halloweeen Party and ‘Scarehouse’ from 2pm and there will be a raffle and auction. Band Voodoo Soup will be playing from 8pm.
