KIND-HEARTED children have helped build a Christmas tree out of shoeboxes full of presents to give to less fortunate youngsters.

Gillian Simpson-Morris, director of Acorns-in-Eldwick, started an appeal to parents of its 130 children to make up a shoebox full of gifts, for boys or girls aged up to five.

Now the collection of 30 shoeboxes is on display in the nursery in Swan Avenue, Eldwick, in the form of a 5ft high Christmas tree.

The shoeboxes will be collected by representatives of Living Lights Christian Outreach, based in Keighley, on Monday, to be handed out.

Sophie Graham, nursery manager, said: “It is about giving gifts to children who are not as well-off as them.

“It is teaching them that not everybody gets things at Christmas like they do.

“The project has been a great success. All of the children are talking about the tree.

“Our children are fortunate that they have everything they need to flourish and thrive.

“This is quite a wealthy area and we just thought all of our children will be getting presents this Christmas.”
