A RELATION of a famous Silsden motorcycling family is tackling a gruelling charity challenge.

Graham Lampkin will ride a 500cc Royal Enfield, which he built, over 1,500 miles through tough mountainous terrain.

He and fellow motorbike enthusiast Chris Nutter plan to travel through the Picos, across northern Spain, over the Pyrenees and into France.

They are raising money for Cancer Research UK.

The duo expects the trip, which will follow unsurfaced tracks and minor lanes, to take about three weeks.

They set off in May.

Mr Lampkin, 64, said: "I did a similar trip, also for Cancer Research UK, to Lerwick two years ago.

"We have the support of a lot of colleagues in the classic trials world and several local firms. Some famous ex-champions have donated signed T-shirts to be raffled.

"About £3,500 has been raised with the Lerwick trip and other things and I would like the total to top £10,000."

He is related to the Lampkins of Silsden, who have notched up many world and British titles and other motocross and trials victories over the years.

A dedicated website, lampygoes2Lnback.co.uk, has been set-up for the challenge.
