A BEAUTY salon boss whose premises was devastated by the Boxing Day floods is running a Valentine's party to raise funds for fellow Bingley businesses damaged by the rains.

Emma Harrison, of Liberties & Co in Old Main Street, had to move to temporary premises and has previously run fundraising parties in aid of charities such as Manorlands and, only days before the floods, for Petal children's cancer research.

"At Liberties & Co we hold two events each year to raise money for different charities, our party nights are very popular and it's all about having fun - we'd only just had our Christmas party for Petal," Ms Harrison said.

"Our clients asked us to hold our next party sooner than later and suggested supporting the businesses who have been forced out of their premises due to the flooding.

"It's so close to home as I know the upset and stress this has all caused and there was nothing we could do to prevent it.

"We have decided to listen to our clients and hold an event to help raise money for Liberties and our neighbouring businesses like the pubs The Brown Cow and White Horse.

"A lot of us have very high excess amounts to pay on our insurances before work can even commence and we can think about returning to our premises.

"Our livelihoods are on hold.

"It's such a long haul we thought it would be good to help people stay positive and get some smiles on faces.

The Valentine's Party entitled Bingley's Got Heart takes place at the Mercure Bankfield Hotel in Bingley on Saturday, February 13, with a smart dress code, entertainment, raffles and tickets priced at £20.

Jo Hogg, who runs the badly flooded Brown Cow on Ireland Bridge said she and her husband Matthew now believe the popular pub may not re-open until Easter.

"We've just learned we will need a new solid oak floor as ours has dried, warped and curled up.

"But at least this week we were able to move back into live there.

"We are tenants and brewers Timothy Taylor, who own the building, have been terrific about getting everything done as quickly as possible.

"We've been overwhelmed by people's generosity - not in money, but in giving their time to help us clear up."

She said they were also grateful to Ms Harrison for organising a party to also provide some financial support.

Councillor David Heseltine (Con, Bingley) said: "Having a party is an innovative proposal to help get Bingley back into shape and I wish them luck with it."
