A PREGNANT mother who was taken to hospital after being struck by a car in Shipley has safely given birth.
The 27-year-old Polish woman, who is thought to live locally, suffered a deep cut to her thigh in the incident near a filling station in Leeds Road, Windhill, shortly after 11am on Sunday.
Tests at Leeds General Infirmary showed her unborn baby daughter had not been hurt, but it is understood the birth was induced to allow surgeons to operate on her injured leg.
Both mother and baby are said to be doing well.
A police spokesman said reports from the scene suggested that a car had been waiting to turn right into the petrol station when a vehicle from behind tried to swerve to avoid it but hit it and struck the woman and another pedestrian.
