AWARDS have been presented to Otley residents who have made an outstanding contribution to their community.
New Town Mayor Councillor Mary Vickers (Lib Dem, Prince Henry's) made the presentations at the Town Council's AGM this week.
Nineteen year old Matthew Cleghorn received the annual Achievement Award for his 'continued dedication and contribution to sport and the local community'.
Cllr Vickers said Matthew's work at Weston Lane Juniors football club, since the age of 16, had seen him become a respected coach who had greatly improved his team of ten and 11 year old players.
She said: "This young man is a fantastic role model to all the members and volunteers at the club, and he's a credit to his family."
Three residents - Steph Lee and couple Eileen and Maurice Armstrong were presented with Honorary Citizen awards.
Mrs Lee has led the running of Otley Victorian Fayre for years and is also a key member of Otley Town Partnership and Otley BID.
Upon receiving her award, she said: "I love this town and I'm so grateful for this, thank you so much."
Mr and Mrs Armstrong, meanwhile, were recognised for their many years of teaching swimming and life-saving, coaching triathlon and organising swimming galas.
Cllr Vickers said: "This couple should be proud of their contributions, over so many years, to promote health and exercise to so many young people."
