HEALTHCARE agencies and providers were on hand to offer help and advice at an organised event held at Girlington Community Centre.
Several local GP practices attended along with services such as Carers’ Resource, Cancer Research UK and Alzheimer’s Society.
Free health checks were carried out for those at risk of diabetes and high blood pressure as well as advice on self-care awareness.
Other advice on hand included exercise groups, warm homes heating advice, nutritional advice and
Qazim Khan-Alizai, practice manager at Clarendon Medical Centre, which was one of the practices involved in the event said the information day was for all cultures, not only the South Asian population.
He said: “It is beneficial to everyone because of the screening programmes and helpful advice on hand.
“Our last event was held in November last year and we were thrilled to have more than 200 attend throughout the day. It is a good way of letting people see what services there are locally to assist them with their health.”
