A CHARITY is hosting a conference in Bradford this month to look at the health needs and issues of women in the city.

Healthy living centre Womenzone is inviting health professionals and community organisations to attend the event on Wednesday, March 18, at 10am.

Organiser Nadia Naim said it had been organised to help connect health professionals, community groups and organisations working in health together to learn and discuss what is needed in Bradford in regards to health and well-being of local people.

Speakers from the City Clinical Commissioning Group, Better Start project, Bradford University and City of Sanctuary will be there to speak about their work and what they are doing to improve health provisions in Bradford.

Mrs Naim said: "It is a must event for health professionals and people working with community groups. The day will be a chance to find out the latest in health and what is happening in Bradford. It will include table activities, discussions, presentations and a speakers' panel Q&A."

Tickets are free but donations are welcome and includes food, she added.

Womenzone Community Centre has been in BD3 for the past 12 years as a registered charity empowering and supporting women with their health and well-being needs - any funds made from the event will go back into running local events and activities for women in Bradford.

The centre in Hubert Street, off Leeds Road, has gym facilities, runs keep fit classes including Zumba and has classes from IT to English for Speakers of Other Languages as well as being a meeting place for women to relax and socialise in a safe environment and make new friends.

The March event is also being organised as a celebration to the end of Womenzone's Healthier Women, Healthier Communities project which has seen 1,200 women benefit from free health support including gym access, one to one counselling, social activities and online films.

Communications worker Sally Molineaux said: "We're just coming from the end of the GP referral project which has been a great success and we hope GPs will continue to encourage women to come to us whether it's for our gym to help with weight loss, to combat isolation or help with any mental problems by coming along to our creative sessions."

Support to organise the Big Health Event has come from the Bradford City Clinical Commissioning Group, Bradford University, Bradford Trident and City of Sanctuary.
