A 27-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed for four months for pushing his girlfriend downstairs after watching a boxing match.

Josie Bellwood suffered a sprained ankle when Adneel Ahmed attacked her at 2.30am on June 28, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

Ahmed, of Brantwood Grove, Heaton, Bradford, sent Miss Bellwood abusive texts before letting himself into her home and behaving aggressively, prosecutor Paul Nicholson said.

When Miss Bellwood went to call the police, Ahmed pushed her down the stairs, spraining her ankle.

The court heard she now suffered from anxiety, stress and nightmares and no longer felt safe to leave the house to walk her dog.

Ahmed had previous convictions for common assault, robbery and burglary, Mr Nicholson said.

His barrister, Stephen Couch, said his client knew that the relationship was over.

He had many plans for the future and a positive report from the probation service.

Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC made a restraining order without limit of time banning Ahmed from contacting Miss Bellwood.
