Cooking sauces launched six months ago by a Bradford-based Asian restaurant chain are flying off supermarket shelves and the company has clinched a deal with Asda to sell them in 153 North East stores.

The Aagrah Group, the UK’s largest chain of Kashmiri restaurants with 14 sites, entered the multi-million pound cooking sauce market by selling its Tarka cooking sauces in 45 Tesco stores across Yorkshire, with 30 more stores added soon after the launch and a roll-out across all Tesco stores planned.

Aagrah said the sauces were now outselling national brands and deals with Bradford-based Morrisons and Waitrose, which has a store in Otley, were also in the pipeline..

The sauces, by Aagrah's award-winning executive chef and managing director Mohammed Aslam to replicate restaurant quality flavours in home-cooked dishes are low calorie, nut and dairy-free and suitable for vegetarians.

Mr Aslam said the sauces were winning good reviews from customers and food critics and would help transform home dining.

He said: “It is such an exciting range and it is good to know the experts in the business share our excitement, which we hope will inspire and delight curry lovers. Consumers are increasingly looking to make quick meals with the no-fuss element.”

Meanwhile, Aagrah’s Midpoint Suite at Thornbury will be the venue for the launch of a business network for the Bradford area.
