THE construction firm responsible for two new buildings at Bradford College and a £28 million new wing at Bradford Royal Infirmary has been listed as the biggest contractor in Yorkshire over the past year.

Bam Construction, which has a £243 million turnover, heads an industry growth list drawn up by construction sector data provider Glenigan.

The Leeds-based company completed the £50 million David Hockney Building at Bradford College and is also building the College’s new £10 million Advanced Technologies Centre.

BAM also built the Leeds Arena and was behind the restoration of the City Varieties Music Hall .

James Wimpenny (pictured), Bam North-East regional director, said: “These are not our own figures of course, but they are compiled on an even-handed basis by a specialist and they give a sense of how the market is performing at a given point in time.

“To be top of the table is nevertheless a fitting tribute to the attitude Bam brings to its work and to our people around our projects. Our clients like our problem-solving approach and our non-confrontational, collaborative style of working. It also shows how our pioneering technology and management techniques are making us competitive. That’s why we’re sought out by a global insurance group like Hiscox and we can deliver really local projects like primary schools.”
