ILKLEY-based property developer and investor Opus North has been given to go-ahead to redevelop the derelict Tudno Castle Hotel in Llandudno.

Opus North, together with local landowners Mostyn Estates, is creating Tudno Point, a flagship retail and leisure scheme in Mostyn Broadway and Vaughan Street, which will feature a new 63-bed hotel, three restaurant units and one retail unit.

The 30,000 sq ft Tudno Point will link the town centre to the 160,000 sq ft Parc Llandudno, where tenants include Debenhams, Next and Laura Ashley.

Andrew Duncan, Opus North director, said: “We were absolutely delighted that Llandudno officers and councillors were so positive about our development. They took less than five minutes to approve our plans and there wasn’t a dissenting voice.

“We plan to start work on site this summer and, with a 15-month building programme, the development is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2015. This is a very important regeneration project for Llandudno and, both during construction and when finished, will provide a massive boost to the local economy."

Meanwhile, the Grade 11-listed Falcon Manor hotel in Settle has been sold off an asking price of more than £550,000 by agents Colliers International.

The buyer was James Warburton, owner of the James’ Places Group of Hotels and Inns. whose other properties include Mitton Hall and Eaves Hall in the Ribble Valley and The Emporium in Clitheroe.
