More than 100 businesses will this week attend a second event to help boost the region’s export as recent figures reveal a ‘tidal wave of enthusiasm’ for overseas sales.

The We Are International Export Network event is part of a big push to boost the Leeds City Region economy by £2.6bn, which is being co-ordinated from Bradford. It follows recent figures that showed exports rising for local firms in the three months to the end of June.

Tim Bailey, international trade director at Bradford-based Chamber International, which is playing a key role in the campaign, added: “More and more firms now realise that 99 per cent of their sales potential lies beyond the UK. We’re staggered by this new tidal wave of enthusiasm for doing business abroad, which wasn’t evident even a year ago, and are keen to capitalise on it as part of re-balancing the UK’s economy.”

The event will be held on Wednesday at the Leeds office of accountants Deloitte and will include representatives from Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, UK Trade & Investment and export ambassadors created by Chamber International to give practical support to would-be exporters.
