A specialist machinery company is on track to double its turnover and increase staffing in the next three years after being appointed the main UK distributor of hydraulic equipment for a major international manufacturer.

Silsden-based Advanced Component Technology Ltd has been appointed sole distribution centre for Kawasaki hydraulics which it has represented for 16 years as a regional distributor.

Technology director Stephen Lund said the appointment would mean a 50 per cent increase to the company’s local supplier chain and would help boost the regional economy.

He said: “Our new role means we are dealing with twice as many Yorkshire businesses to fulfil our remit of promoting system solutions to equipment manufacturers. Over the next three years we will double turnover to around £3 million and create new jobs.”

Two staff have already been added at the firm with another two or three expected to be recruited in future.

He said: “While we’re not creating large numbers of new jobs, the rise in percentage terms in our workforce is significant for us and every job helps the local economy.

“We have previously been one of four general distributors in the UK but to be awarded sole responsibility for Kawasaki’s UK distribution changes the face of our business.

“Future plans involve building our technical expertise to cover product application and support for the Kawasaki hydraulic product ranges while offering onsite training and development to hundreds of specialist businesses in the UK.”

The company supplies equipment for use in sectors including power generation, mining, oil and gas exploration and marine, which Mr Lund said offered good long-term prospects.

He said: “We’re dealing with customers in sectors that will always be in demand.

“That’s why we've not really suffered from the gloomy economic situation.”

Steve Cardew, Kawasaki UK managing director, attended the official opening of the distribution centre along with the Lord Mayor of Bradford Coun Khadim Hussain. He said: “My background is in manufacturing and I’m extremely proud to see such a success story here on our doorstep.”
