Who is the top woman in Bradford’s business community? We want to know for this year’s Bradford Means Business Awards.

The Woman in Business Award is open to the businesswoman who has shown truly outstanding leadership at the head of a business, leading to measurable success, while acting as a role model for other women.

Submissions might include how the business has performed against its objectives, and evidence of sound financial performance. We’d like to know how the individual’s leadership has made a difference to the performance of the company.

If there were any gender-specific issues or obstacles that had to be overcome, then we’d like to hear about that too, and how the problems were dealt with and surmounted.

Motorcycle dealership boss Louise Jefferies looked stunned to be declared winner of the Woman in Business award last year. The mum-of-two was nominated for the honour by staff at Allan Jefferies in Baildon for her “amazing” achievements as a “female boss in a very male-dominated industry”.

The general manager, who has worked at the family business for more than ten years, received her award from Stephen Wright, president of Bradford Chamber.

Louise said: “I’m completely and utterly shocked. I’m absolutely thrilled, I can’t believe it. I feel really proud. It’s an honour to receive this award.”

The sponsor for this category is Hiba Hampers, a wholesaler of handmade baskets, set up by Bradford-based lawyer Nasreen Karim in 2011.

The company’s ambitious mission is “to ensure every single home has one of our baskets as either a mithai hamper, flower display, gift basket or as a unique display”.

Nasreen says: “We are an audacious, dynamic and innovative brand; our handmade and hand-crafted baskets cannot be found anywhere else. The gift hampers we supply are cus-tomised to ensure a truly personalised gift.

Hiba Hampers provides gift hampers and baskets to private customers as well as wholesale to selected businesses.”

Hiba Hampers’ most successful line to date is the mithai (Asian sweets) hamper.

The company supplies gift shops and customer direct.
