Hair straighteners brand ghd, which started life in Ilkley in 2001, has changed hands in a £300 million deal.

The Leeds-based Jemella Group has been sold by Montague Private Investment, which acquired the business for £160 million in 2007, to investment firm Lion Capital.

Following investment in research and development and a focus on new markets, including the United States, Europe and Australasia, sales of ghd products have risen to two million and profits have more than doubled to £32 million on sales of £150 million.

After operating from Silsden, the business moved to Leeds in 2009.
