Local businesses of all sizes are being given the chance to pitch for work on the £50 million rebuild of Bradford College.

The college and lead contractor BAM Construction are holding an event where potential suppliers can meet the team behind the development.

The college is in the middle of the rebuild project which includes creating an L-shaped campus building constructed on the site of the Westbrook Building, which will also house the McMillan, Appleton and Old Buildings.

The new state-of-the-art facility is due to open its doors to students by September next year.

The college has also hone out to tender for companies to help with the £2.8 million revamp of its Lister Building, announced late last year. That cash will see the college build an extension at the complex which will house a library, a cafe and an exhibition space.

A ‘meet the buyer’ event will be hosted by the college at Westbrook Building, Great Horton Road, on Thursday, February 7, from 1pm.

As well as providing details of opportunities on the rebuild project, the event will also enable local firms to establish a working relationship with the college, which could result in work on future projects as the college chiefs anticipate investing about £100 million over the next five years.

The event is open to businesses of all sizes and project leaders are particularly keen to meet businesses specialising in office furniture, IT equipment and hair, beauty and spa services as there will be package tender opportunities.

Companies will also be able to consult college representatives about apprenticeships and staff recruitment and student placements through its Beacon Recruitment & Placement Services.

Andy Welsh, Bradford College project sponsor, said: “We’re really keen to engage with local businesses regardless of their size. Being involved in our exciting campus project can benefit organisations throughout the duration of this project and also open doors to future on-going working relationships between College, BAM and the local business community.

“We hope that the ‘Meet the Buyer’ event will be a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to work together and help boost the local economy, which is pivotal in the regeneration of the city centre.”
