A DISQUALIFIED driver tried to evade police by jumping into the River Aire.
Members of West Yorkshire Police’s Shipley Neighbourhood Policing Team spotted an uninsured vehicle on Hirst Lane, Saltaire at 9.38am yesterday while on patrol.
After noticing police, the driver then sped away with officers in pursuit.
He drove the car onto a grassed area next to the River Aire, churning up the grass, before stopping the car, getting out and leaping into the river.
He was soon fished out by police, who found he had no insurance, and was also disqualified from driving.
The car was seized, and the driver is due to appear in court in relation to the driving offences.
