Campaigners trying to stop hundreds of homes being built in their villages were dealt another crushing blow yesterday.
And a man who applied to have fields in Derry Hill, Menston designated Village Green status to stop 170 new houses described the decision to reject his bid as “devastating”.
A bid to have land off Thornhill Road, Steeton, earmarked for 220 new homes, classed as a Village Green was also turned down by councillors on Bradford Council’s miscellaneous licences panel.
They had been asked to make a final decision on reports by independent inspector David Manley QC, who had examined both applications.
He recommended the Derry Hill bid for refusal following a week-long public inquiry in August, while he suggested the Thornhill Road bid should also be turned down.
