A crazed driver hurtled through red lights and forced other motorists to mount the kerb to avoid him during a high-speed rush-hour police chase in Bradford last night.

He also drove on the wrong side of traffic islands during the ten-minute pursuit.

Police said it was lucky no-one had been injured.

The drama began shortly before 6pm when patrolling police officers spotted a man acting suspiciously around a grey Seat Leon in Ruffield Side, Delph Hill.

The officers put on their vehicle’s blue lights and sirens to stop the Seat, but it drove off at speed.

The pursuit continued along Woodside Road, New Works Road and Cleckheaton Road to Oakenshaw, and then along Mill Carr Hill Road and Cliff Hollins Lane. POlice lost sight of it as it was driven off into East Bierley.

A police spokesman said: “There were no collisions or injuries caused, but it is very fortunate indeed that they did not occur, given the manner of this driving.

“The roads were very busy at that time and there were a lot of people about. We would ask any witnesses to contact us on 101.”
