People with a passion they want to share with fellow Bradfordians can sign up for the seventh Bettakultcha event being held in Bradford.

Bettakultcha is a night of presentations which can be anything including the science of baking, the history of Bradford as a centre for culture, tales of underground worlds, discussions of photography and everything in between.

The son of the Yorkshire Ripper’s first victim, Richard McCann, now a motivational speaker, has participated in one of the events where he told his story about his life so far.

Each person presenting needs to have 20 slides, each slide changes every 15 seconds, and there are no sales pitches allowed.

Since the event was created three years ago, more than 1,500 have attended and nearly 200 five-minute presentations held.

Richard Michie, one of the organisers along with Ivor Tymchak, said that the night was a mix between stand up and cabaret.

“I do one about professional Northerners but people can do the presentation on almost any subject,” he said.

“The purpose of the event is to have a bit of fun. It is a nice alternative to the television and this is a good opportunity to do that.

“It’s a cabaret and even if you think one is not that interesting, you only have to wait another five minutes for another one.

“Richard McCann told his life story and it is good because you never know what people are going to say.

“It is the unknown and we have had one person talking to us about quantum physics.

“We have had a whole gamut of interesting stuff over the years.

“We have 50 tickets available for Bradford and could increase that to 100 if the demand is there.

“At the moment I have nine presenters down for Bradford but we can get up to 16.

“People can just come and watch or give it a go. Some people take part in the random challenge at the end which can be really funny or people can collapse.”
