A mother-of-three died from a very forceful blow to the head and suffered 30 other injuries during “a significant assault”, a murder trial jury was told.

Samantha Warren’s injuries included an acute subdural haematoma that meant she lost consciousness within hours and died three days later, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

Miss Warren’s boyfriend, Santosh Kumar, pleads not guilty to her murder. He admits manslaughter, saying he did not intend to cause her serious injury.

The trial has been told that a neighbour heard Miss Warren being attacked at her home in Libbey Street, Manningham, Bradford, on the afternoon of April 26.

Kumar, 43, of Crosley Wood Road, Bingley is said to have driven the 33-year-old care worker to hospital but she did not go inside.

By 10.30pm that day, she was unconscious at her home and medical staff at Bradford Royal Infirmary found she had fatal bleeding on the brain.

Home Office pathologist Dr Christopher Johnson said Miss Warren’s injuries were consistent with being gripped round the upper part of her neck and struck “a very forceful blow” to the head.

She had a fractured nose, broken rib and little finger, two black eyes and deep bruising to her chest wall. Her upper arms were also bruised.

Dr Johnson said she died from a blunt force head injury.

The jury was told that police examining Miss Warren’s home recovered a broken bowl and smashed fridge magnets. A chair and kitchen cupboard were damaged and a vase knocked over. Blood-stained tissue was found in a bin.

Prosecutor Paul Greaney QC has alleged that “powerfully built” Kumar murdered Miss Warren in a jealous rage.

The trial continues.
