Masterchef Tom leaves Addingham pub weeks after joining as head chef
The man who finished runner-up in TV’s Masterchef has left his job after only a few weeks in the role.
Tom Rennolds, who reached the final of the popular programme, was unveiled as the head chef at the Craven Heifer, in Addingham when it reopened after a £225,000 makeover in August.
It was a first head chef role for the 26-year-old, who had been a plasterer before finding fame and success on the BBC show earlier this year.
But after revealing he had left his job on Twitter, the pub’s new landlord, Craig Minto, revealed things had not worked out at the Craven Heifer, which is aiming to become a “destination food pub” using locally-sourced ingredients.
Mr Rennolds, of Ilkley, was due to give a demonstration at the Addingham Beer Festival on Saturday, but was replaced by Mr Minto, before he tweeted about his departure.
“Parted company with @TheCravenHeifer on thursday, wish the team the best for the future, cant wait to get back in a kitchen very soon!!” he said.
He posted similar comments on his Facebook page, although he has not yet answered any responses from followers and friends about his future plans.
Last night, Mr Minto said the plans for the pub following the revamp were still on track, but not with Mr Rennolds on board.
“I had hoped it would work out with Tom, but unfortunately it didn’t,” he said.
“Having not been a head chef in the past did not work in Tom’s favour and it’s a big thing running a kitchen.”
Mr Minto, who also runs The Fleece in Addingham, said current staff have filled in since Mr Rennolds departure and the target of providing “memorable” eating experience was on course since the re-opening.
“Everything has been very well received,” he said.
“We’re not aiming for Michelin stars as such, we just want to please our customers.”
