Detectives are hunting a private hire driver who sexually assaulted a Baildon woman on her way home after a night out - then dropped her off near home.

The 20-year-old woman had got into the car in the centre of Leeds but fallen asleep, waking up in a remote lane somewhere near Menston with the man in the back of the car assaulting her.

Police have released this e-fit of the man they want to trace in connection with this serious assault which happened in the early hours of Sunday, September 30.

The victim believes the attack took place up a small track about five miles from Menston and told police the car was a dark-coloured saloon, which had the appearance of a private hire vehicle.

She described the driver was described as African or Afro-caribbean, aged in his late twenties and slim, but with chubby cheeks. He spoke little English and was wearing a black shirt.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Wood, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “This was an attack on a young lady who believed she was being transported safely home after a night out. Instead she was put through a frightening experience.

“I am appealing to anyone who feels they recognise the man involved to get in touch immediately. This may have been a genuine private hire vehicle that had been loaned out unofficially or it could have been a genuine taxi driver.

“I would urge anyone who recognises the man in the image to contact the police immediately. We will be able to forensically eliminate anyone who is put forward as a suspect.”

Anyone with any information should to contact detectives of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team on 101.
