Police are investigating the cause of a blaze which ripped through the bedroom of a flat in Bradford.

Crews from Bradford fire station were called to reports of a fire at the first-floor maisonette on Weber Court, off Leeds Road, at around 11pm on Wednesday.

Fire investigation officers and police were at the scene during the night and returned yesterday morning to establish how the fire started.

Watch commander Richard Lightowler said no one was in the flat at the time.

“When we got there the whole bedroom was fully involved in fire and there were flames shooting out of the window.

“The bedroom was totally destroyed and the flat was smoke damaged to the rest of the first floor.

“It took us around ten minutes to get the fire under control, but we were there for three hours investigating the cause.”

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed officers had been called to the property at around 11.10pm.

He said: “We are working with fire investigation officers and scenes of crime officers have been at the property.

“Investigations to establish the cause are continuing.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
