A former caretaker’s house at Tong High School has been converted into a special centre offering pupils the opportunity to develop skills in construction.
The new construction centre will be used by the school to provide lessons in construction in an authentic “real-life” workshop environment rather than in the classroom.
The centre has been developed in the old caretaker’s premises at the school.
The school hopes the centre, created in partnership with building and civil engineers Moortown Construction, will add an extra dimension to its BTEC courses, giving pupils the chance to learn outside the classroom.
Head teacher Steve Curran said each room in the house allowed the students to practice different aspects of construction, from joinery to plumbing.
He said: “It’s much better than a class-room and is great for the students’ development.”
