A £13m regional fire control centre built to take calls from across Yorkshire is being marketed to tenants after it was never used.
The Department for Communities and Local Government has hired a property company to find a business for the building in Wakefield at a rent of £450,000 a year.
The ‘super-centre’ was built after the previous Government wanted to slim down the country's 46 control centres to nine, but plans were scrapped by the coalition Government due to spiralling costs.
Under the troubled project, Bradford, Birkenshaw , Humberside, North Yorkshire and South Yorkshire bases would all have closed and calls to the service would then have been answered at the new site.
