Moonlight and Magnolias has been proving a great hit with Ilkley Playhouse audiences, but a few tickets still remain for the final three performances up until Saturday.

John Cohen’s display of memorabilia relating to Gone With The Wind (the play very humorously depicts the frantic process by which the screenplay for the blockbuster was compiled in five days) has proved very popular in the coffee area.

Laughter will be a continuing theme with the advent of Stagefright Comedy Club in the Wildman Studio theatre on September 22. Two of the four comic turns include Seymour Mace, a multi-award winning comedian, and Peter Brush, who delivers quirky one-liners worthy of Stewart Francis.

The show is compered by Scott Bennett (billed as a star of the future), and other guests include Eddie French and Pat Devine. All tickets are £10, the bar opens (for the whole evening) from 7.30pm and the fun begins at 8pm.

Ilkley Literature Festival will be making extensive use of the Playhouse from September 29 through to October 14, with both the Wharfeside Theatre and the Wildman Studio theatre serving as regular venues for some of the main events.

The Playhouse team will be presenting A Tribute to Philip Larkin on the first Saturday of the festival – already selling extremely well, according to festival director Rachel Feldberg – which will feature Larkin’s poems, extracts from his two novels, biographical insights and many examples of his incomparable humour, as well as scenes from the play Larkin With Women, by Ben Brown, the full-length version of which will be staged from October 31 to November 10 in the Wharfeside Theatre.

Julian Sands’ visit to the Playhouse in August has been followed up by suggestions that he would love to make another appearance in Ilkley before too much longer. His onstage comments when delivering A Celebration of Harold Pinter told of his admiration for the integrity and vision of the Playhouse management – music to the ears of several in the audience – and that we were a beacon of light in northern theatre. You can see why we love him so much and want him back soon!

You can obtain tickets for all Playhouse events by calling (01943) 609539 from 9.30am to 11.30am, and from 1pm to 7pm, or visit the ilkleyplayhouse.co.uk website.
