Today’s technology is linked with ancient carved stones in a new trail launched by the Friends of Ilkley Moor.

The Friends group has created a Cup and Ring Stone GPS trail on Ilkley Moor.

There are more than 400 known carved stones on Ilkley Moor and Rombalds Moor, carved during the Neolithic to Bronze Age period. The reasons the enigmatic cups, rings and lines were carved is unknown.

Members of The Friends, Colin Beecham and Barry Wilkinson, have spent the last few months locating the stones, recording the co-ordinates and planning the trail.

Mr Wilkinson said: “We appreciate that the trail needs a certain knowledge of using GPS, but we hope it will appeal to our younger members.”

Details and GPS references for the stones can be downloaded from ilkleymoor.org.
