A man found guilty of blasting a father-of-six in the leg with a shotgun more than five years ago will be sentenced next week.
Robert Whelan, 31, was convicted at Bradford Crown Court on Tuesday of having a firearm to commit an indictable offence and causing Brian Jackson grievous bodily harm in the early hours of New Year’s Day, 2007.
Whelan, then of Grayswood Crescent, Holme Wood , Bradford, was found not guilty of the more serious offences of having a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and wounding Mr Jackson with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.
He has been warned he faces a long prison sentence.
Mr Jackson was left permanently disabled when he suffered a shotgun wound to the shin. Whelan was extradited from Ireland this year after going there following his arrest over the shooting.
Whelan made a further brief appearance at Bradford Crown Court yesterday when the sentencing date was fixed for Friday, September 21. He was remanded in custody.
