One of Yorkshire’s most famous restaurants has been named among the top 50 eateries in the UK in a best-selling guide.

The Box Tree at Ilkley , which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and recently retained its Michelin Star rating for the eighth year running, is included in The Good Food Guide’s top 50 UK restaurants list.

The guide reviews the best restaurants, pubs and cafes throughout the country and is written from scratch every year based on readers’ feedback and anonymous volunteer inspectors. The ratings take into account food, service and the overall dining experience.

Simon Gueller, who runs the restaurant with his wife Rena, said: “It’s a team effort at The Box Tree and our selection to be included within this guide just shows how everyone involved with the restaurant is a vital cog in the wheel that goes towards making every customer’s experience exceptional. It’s an illustrious list of locations and chefs and we are thrilled to be included.”

The Box Tree is one of only two Yorkshire restaurants included in the Good Food Guide alongside other famous restaurants such as Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck at Bray and Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir Aux Quat’ Saisons.

Mr Gueller, who has maintained his Michelin Star chef rating for 13 years, and Rena also run Box Tree events. They recently clinched a deal to manage menus at Harewood House, home of the Earl and Countess of Harewood, to create fine dining menus for corporate and private clients at one of the UK’s most-visited stately homes.

Earlier this year, celebrity chef Marco Pierre White, a friend of the Guellers, returned to the restaurant which helped start his career as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations.

The restaurant was launched In 1962 by Malcolm Reid and Colin Long who set out to compete with London venues.
