Bradford-based Yorkshire Building Society has asked the public to help it choose five local charities or good causes at each of its eight branches in the city for its Make A Difference Week giveaway.

From tomorrow, the branches will be inviting people in to nominate the cause they would like to see receive a £100 boost.

This is the fifth year the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Found-ation’s Make A Difference Week has run in Bradford. Alison Alexis, manager of the Bradford Howard House branch, said: “Make A Difference Week has always been a brilliant success that gives some of the smaller charities the chance to get a helping hand.

“Yorkshire is committed to supporting local communities, where our members and staff live and work, and we are hoping that by having members of the public call in and nominate their favourite charity, we can help support some of the smaller good causes that can often be overlooked for a donation.

“I hope anybody passing one of our branches in Bradford between August 17 and 25 will pop in, pick up a nomination form and tell us who they want to see receive £100.”

The money donated through Make A Difference Week is largely funded by the society’s Small Change, Big Difference scheme. Members of the society can choose to donate pennies from the interest they receive on their accounts to the charitable foundation.

All branches and agencies under the Yorkshire Group will be taking part in the week. Since the launch of the campaign five years ago, more than 5,000 charities have received a boost.
