An unauthorised car wash which had been operating near one of Bradford’s busiest roads has been closed down by Bradford Council. The Dr Shine car wash, which was operating under the name Persia Car Wash in Keighley Road, Manningham, was refused a retrospective planning application earlier in the year, but owner Khalid Abdullah hoped to successfully appeal against the Council’s decision. Planners stated in January that the car wash signs detracted from the character and appearance of a nearby listed building and the St Paul’s and North Park Road conservation areas which are nearby. Council planners said the business had inadequate car parking and could lead to traffic queuing on the busy Keighley Road. A Bradford Council spokesman said: “We will be making a visit to the Dr Shine site to confirm the enforcement action has been successful. It is important businesses understand their responsibilities to meet planning requirements before they start operating. “When they fail to do so, it can result in enforcement action like this.” Mr Abdullah, 33, of West Bowling, previously told the Telegraph & Argus that he had bought the Dr Shine car wash, in the former Spotted House pub car park, from a friend for £2,200. He renamed it the Persia Car Wash, and said he believed it had the relevant planning permission. He said he had left Iraq seven years ago after his father and brother were killed during the conflict. Manningham ward Councillor Ishtiaq Ahmed (Respect) said he welcomed the decision to close a business that was operating without permission. He said: “The Council has its own rules and regulations and if they are not adhered by I stand by the Council on that and the Council has every right to close them down. “The rules are there for every business and they all must have the right planning permission.” Councillor Shabir Hussain (Lab, Manningham) did not want to comment to the Telegraph & Argus about the issue.
