Stricken Bradford Bulls fans have called a meeting in a last-ditch attempt to save the famous rugby league club as administrators revealed last night that no potential buyer has yet come forward.

Up to 150 fans have already declared their support for the meeting which takes place at the Coral Stand at Odsal Stadium, on Monday from 7pm.

The crisis-torn club finally admitted defeat this week in its bid to raise the funds needed to pay debts owed to HM Revenue & Customs over unpaid tax, with a £250,000 VAT bill outstanding and further PAYE monies also due, as reported in the Telegraph & Argus.

Joint administrator Brendan Guilfoyle confirmed last night that there had been no offers to buy the club. On Tuesday he set out a deadline of ten working days for that to happen to avoid the Bulls going into liquidation. The fans, who have also set up a Facebook page titled Bradford Bulls Fans – Crisis Meeting, want to get local businesses involved and get more donations to try to keep the club afloat.

Steven Calvert, a fan for 12 years, said that a few of the fans had got together across the forums and decided to organise the meeting to see what they could do.

“We just want to reach out to the wider community and see what we can do to help the club,” he said.

“We want to see whether we can raise some funds. I am absolutely gutted and think it is a shame for the players, the staff and the fans.

“It is a shame for Bradford as a community and will leave a big hole in Bradford if it falls.

“We want as many people as possible to get involved on Monday.”

The Super League Players’ Association said it has begun the process of ensuring that the players at the Bulls were provided with the necessary advice and guidance.

Chairman Jon Wilkin said that the association was formed by the players, especially for situations such as this.

“Without the association, the players at the Bulls would not have received any guidance or help at this difficult time.

“As a Super League player, I understand the pressures that the Bulls players are under at the moment.

“My thoughts are with them at this trying time.”

Ernie Benbow, the association’s chief executive, said: “I have met the Bulls players as a group and advised them of their rights at this present time.

“The players, while understandably worried about their futures, are focused on tonight’s game at Wigan and reiterated their passion for the Bradford Bulls “I have kept in contact with the administrator, the RFL and Ryan Duckett at the Bradford club.

“I have already been able to resolve some of the issues that the players have had.

“We will continue to provide help, support and guidance to the Bradford players at this difficult time.

“We all hope that new investment can be found for Bradford and one of the biggest clubs in Super League can be saved.”
