More than 200 schoolchildren from across Bradford took some Small Steps to Safety at a number of events at West Yorkshire Fire Service’s Safety Central.
The year six youngsters from the Great Horton area of the city attended four events at the centre as part of Child Safety Week.
The children saw a chip pan fire demonstration, as well as learning about arson, road safety, drugs, alcohol and water safety. Assistant chief fire officer Craig McIntosh said: “Accidents can happen at any time and to anyone, but by taking small steps to reflect on our behaviour can help make a long lasting difference.”
Partners involved included the neighbourhood policing team, the Royal National Lifeboat Institute and Great Horton ward Councillor Joanne Dodds.
Councillor Dodds, who is secretary to the Great Horton Community Partnership, said: “The children had a fabulous time at Safety Central and they learned some valuable messages. My thanks go to the Safety Central team, who have worked so hard to ensure our children learn to keep safe in a fun way.”
Schools taking part were Hollingwood Primary, Lidget Green Primary, Bracken Hill Primary, Southmere Primary and St Oswald’s Primary.
