A double medallist and a talented teenage athlete both got their hands on the Olympic torch yesterday.
Great Britain rower Debbie Flood, from Guiseley, who won silver medals at both the 2004 and 2008 Olympic games in Athens and Beijing, carried the flame as it made its way from Morecombe to Lancaster, on day 35 of the 8,000-mile relay.
Debbie, 31, has been selected to be part of the GB team and will be hoping to make it third time lucky in her quest for gold.
Also completing a leg of the relay was unsung hero Alex Kupse from Bradford. The 19-year-old completed his leg of the relay in Milnthorpe near Lancaster.
He has Asperger Syndrome and was born with a heart defect and a rare lung disorder, but has taken medals as a 100-metre and long-jump specialist with the Wakefield Harriers and Mencap England.
