Protesters occupying the site of Bradford’s stalled Westfield shopping centre have pledged to stay for another seven days.
The group, calling itself Occupy Westfield, initially vowed to stay for a week when they set up camp at the end of last month.
Following a fun day at the site on Saturday, the group’s solicitor Alias Yousaf said the protesters, who have demanded a meeting with Bradford Council leader Councillor David Green and a public inquiry into the mothballed scheme, would be staying for a further week.
He said: “The overwhelming public opinion is if they leave they will simply be forgotten about, the Council will continue to sit on its hands and nothing will get done.”
So far 14,000 people have pledged their support for the occupiers in an online petition.
