A Bradford man has pleaded guilty to possessing a haul of guns as two others admitted their part in a conspiracy to possess firearms with intent to endanger life.

Jason Crompton, 39, admitted at Leeds Crown Court yesterday possessing a Mach 10 submachine gun and a Mossberg pump action shotgun, as a trial into the conspiracy was due to start.

The company boss, of Rookes Avenue, Wibsey, also admitted possessing a Steyr Mannlicher bolt action rifle without a certificate.

Two other men, Zeeshah Azad Khan, 32, and Christopher Chung, 29, pleaded guilty to offences of conspiracy to possess firearms with intent to endanger life and conspiracy to possess ammunition with intent to endanger life.

They had previously denied the offences.

A fourth defendant, David Pemberton, 37, of Belmont Avenue, Low Moor – the half brother of Zeeshah Azad Khan – admitted the same two offences on Monday but his pleas could not be reported until yesterday.

The men were arrested in Bradford and Liverpool as part of a police investigation into alleged firearms and drugs offences.

They were charged in relation to the discovery of weapons by officers in January last year.

Khan’s brother Aaris Azad Khan, 29, of Cutler Heights Lane, denied being part of the conspiracy and was due to stand trial – but prosecutor Richard Wright QC said the case against him was “very different” to the other defendants and he would no longer face prosecution because there was not a “reasonable” expectation of conviction.

Judge Guy Kearl QC adjourned the case for sentencing on Monday.

Zeeshah Azad Khan, of Kismet Gardens, Bradford Moor, and Chung, of Liverpool, were remanded in custody while Crompton was granted conditional bail until Monday’s hearing.
