Police recorded a total of 43 crimes in Addingham last year, giving the village lower crime levels than nearby communities.

PC Alan Jacks, of Wharfedale and Craven Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) told Addingham Parish Council’s annual meeting the total crime figure for the village in 2011 was 43 - although this total did not include speeding offences.

He said this was lower than other areas nearby.

Since the beginning of January, a total of 11 crimes have been reported in the village and ongoing policing issues include checking on bogus scrap dealers operating in the area and thefts of garden furniture and metal.

PC Jacks advised anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact police on the new 101 telephone number.

A member of the public asked what is being done to tackle speeding.

PC Jacks said Bradford-based road traffic police carried out regular patrols, as well as NPT officers running Speedwatch operations with the help of civilian volunteers.

He suggested anyone who identified a problem with speeding in a particular area could write to the Chief Superintendent of the Airedale and North Bradford Division, asking for traffic police to focus on this area.
