More than 60 homes were evacuated this afternoon and a 200-metre cordon put in place after fears that a flammable gas cylinder might explode.
Firefighters, called to a domestic garage fire at 4.15pm on Woodhall Terrace, Thornbury, spotted the acetylene cylinder nearby.
If overheated, the canister could create a fireball or shoot 200 metres into the air, so residents had to be moved for their own safety to the Richard Dunn Sports Centre in Odsal. The cordon will be in place until 4pm tomorrow.
The cause of the fire is being investigated
