Monique Tanghe, whose paralysed husband Daniel, 77, receives day care and attends one week a month respite at Neville Grange, raised a petition after Bradford Council revealed that its preferred option was to close the care home.
Mrs Tanghe, 62, of Ashfield Drive, Frizinghall, said: “The staff are fantastic and really look after the people there. It would be a disaster if they closed it without opening a new care home for the residents.
“I think they have their priorities in the wrong place.”
Mrs Tanghe is the sole carer for Daniel, who was paralysed after suffering a stroke eight years ago. She said she feared she would have to give up her business if no alternative respite care is provided.
Mike Thomas, whose 98-year-old mother Dorothy is a resident at Neville Grange, has accused the Council of “relinquishing responsibility” for the elderly and infirm in its care homes.
The 71-year-old said: “If the decision to close these three latest homes goes ahead, it will be a total of six residential care homes closed by the authority, resulting in a major loss of residential care, rehab and respite care. Day care will also suffer badly.”
He said his mother would be “traumatised” by being forced to move.
