The University of Bradford has risen two places to 71st in a national higher education league table of the country’s 116 universities.

The Complete University Guide shows the facility has improved on last year’s position of 73rd in the table, which ranks establishments on criteria including student satisfaction, research, entry standards, graduate prospects and course completion rates.

The university is now placed sixth out of Yorkshire’s nine universities – ahead of Sheffield Hallam, which slipped ten places to 72, as well as Leeds Metropolitan at 95 and York St John at 103.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Mark Cleary, said: “We use a wide range of indicators, including league tables, to assess our progress and it is pleasing to see an improvement in the Complete University Guide this year.”

In the report, published yesterday, the university – which figures show received five applications per place – received a rating of four out of five for its students’ employment prospects after graduation. However, it was given a score of one out of five for its results, with 50.8 per cent of students achieving a first or upper second class honours degree.

The report praised the university for its “unique portfolio of world-class research”.
