A building that has been a focal point for Otley’s older residents for half a century is holding an open evening to mark its 50th anniversary.
Otley Aged People’s Welfare Centre was opened in Crossgate in 1962, after sponsorship from Otley Rotary Club and other fundraising had collected the £7,000 needed to build it.
The centre’s main tenants, Otley Over 60s Club, are inviting civic dignitaries and anyone connected with the building’s history to join them on Wednesday, April 25. The event, from 7.30pm, will include an exhibition of memorabilia.
Invitations have been sent out, but Otley Over 60s Club chairman Danny Sloan is extending an open invitation to anyone with links to the centre.
He said: “We have invited anyone else we can think of.
“But we’re keen not to miss anyone, so please contact me on (01943) 462314, e-mail h.s.sloan@btinternet.com, or call our secretary, Doris Porteous, on (01943) 461778.”
