Detectives have been questioning an 18-year-old man after he was arrested by officers investigating a sex attack on a woman near a railway station.

The man, who has not been named, handed himself in to officers at Keighley police station.

He was yesterday being quizzed by detectives in connection with the alleged attack, following an appeal in the Telegraph & Argus.

Det Chief Insp Jon Morgan, who is leading the investigation for West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET), released still images of CCTV footage of a man walking with the victim before the sex assault, which happened behind Bingley station in Midland Hill at about 2.25am on Sunday, March 18.

Det Chief Insp Morgan said: “As a result of the CCTV, a man handed himself in at Keighley police station. He is in custody being interviewed.”

The man has since been released on bail pending further inquiries, a police spokesman said.

The CCTV footage was obtained from Bradford Council and Network Rail and showed a man with the victim walking away from a nightclub in Foundry Hill. They made their way through the railway station about an hour before the woman reported that she had been assaulted to ambulance staff and police.

Police cordoned off the scene while officers carried out a finger-tip search of a grass verge near Midland Hill the.

In an appeal to the public, Det Chief Insp Morgan made it clear the attack had been “an isolated incident”.

The CCTV appeal came more than a week after the report of the assault, after police had interviewed witnesses including taxi drivers and revellers, some of whom were from outside the Bingley area.

Det Chief Insp Morgan previously said that tracking down the man captured on CCTV was a “vital piece of the jigsaw” of finding the attacker.

Anyone with more information should contact West Yorkshire Police on the non-emergency number, 101.
