Family and friends of a Bingley mother and grandmother found dead in a country lane in Cumbria will say their final farewells at her funeral on Monday.

Rose-Marie Valente, 49, who lived at Woodside Crescent in Cottingley, was found last month near a farm on a country lane at Brough, near Kirkby Stephen.

She had gone to the village to spend the weekend with her boyfriend but was found dead shortly before 8am on Monday, February 27.

Her family who described her as “loving and supportive” have appealed for people to help Cumbria police find out how she died.

Police questioned a 48-year-old man in connection with her death at the time who has since been released on bail.

In a statement Miss Valente’s family said: “As a family we are devastated with the loss of our mother and hoping to find out more information as time goes on. We know she went to Cumbria for the weekend to spend time with her boyfriend and was found dead in close proximity to where she was staying.

“The police have given us an outline to what they believe was the cause of death but as you can understand we are wanting to know what events led up to that.

“Rose was a loving and supportive mother and grandparent and we will miss her terribly and are devastated by this.

“We would like to thank the Cumbria Police for working hard to hopefully obtain the answers that we seek and for all their support towards the family during this difficult time. As you can appreciate the family wishes to grieve in private for their loss.”

The police investigation has been focusing on a silver 4x4 vehicle, which police believe may have been involved in a collision with Rose.

Police seized the vehicle for examination and officers were appealing for witnesses who may have seen a silver 4x4 vehicle on the morning she was found or the previous evening in the Brough and Kirby Stephen area.

Yesterday, Cumbria Police said there were no updates on the investigation.Anyone with information or who saw or spoke to Miss Valente over the weekend she died should call them on 101.

Miss Valente was a mum to Sarah, Loreto, Chloe, Ashley and the late Heidi.

Monday’s service will be at St Michael and All Angel’s Church in Shelf at noon before burial at Bierley Cemetery.

Friends are invited to meet the family at the church and flowers should be sent to Joseph A Hey & Son’s private chapel in Great Horton Road, Bradford.
