A Bradford woman says she has been driven out of her home by a constant mysterious droning noise.

Alison Farry, 42, said she had moved to her mother’s house to get away from the noise, which she said was driving her “insane”.

The veterinary nurse has lived in her house, in Chapel Street, Eccleshill, for 15 years, but said she now finds it “unbearable” to stay there after she began hearing the humming sound in September.

She said residents she had spoken to of neighbouring houses had not experienced the problem, and after investigation she found the noise was not connected to her gas, electricity or water supplies.

She said a representative from the Orange phone company had visited and found the noise was not connected to its phone masts. She is hoping someone from O2 will visit to assess whether it has anything to do with its masts in the area.

Miss Farry said: “It started in September, it’s a droning, strange sort of humming noise. It’s constant. It’s causing pressure in my ears. People who come to visit my house get pressure in thieir ears.”

She said she had been visited three times by staff from Bradford Council’s Environmental Health department, but officers have said they were unable to detect the sound.

“I can’t live in my own house because of the noise, it is driving me insane,” she said. “I’ve never come across a noise like this in my life before.

“I’ve lived in my house 15 years and it’s unbearable to live in. It’s like someone’s put an electric pylon on top of my house.”

Andrew Lodge, Bradford Council’s environmental health manager, said: “We have been out a number of times to visit the property and investigate.

“Neither our staff nor our noise recording instruments have detected this noise.”
