A dog breeder was thrown a surprise party after winning two first prizes in the same day at Crufts.
Diane Garratt, of West Morton, near Keighley, entered her bull mastiff sisters Squishy and Darcy in the UK’s top dog competition and Darcy – officially known as Medjezelbab Grandma’s Girl at March Manor – was judged to be top junior bitch.
Squishy, known as Fowlerheight Red River at March Manor, came first in the limit class. She took second place in the class when she took part at Crufts for the first time two years ago.
When Diane returned home from Crufts to her smallholding in Street Lane, her daughter Kelly, 25, and friend Joel had organised a party for her.
She said: “It’s a tremendous feeling to win – and to win twice in the same day is unbelievable. It makes your knees go.”
The dog-lover has been breeding bull mastiffs for the past 17 years but began showing them only three years ago.
Squishy, whose father was a Crufts champion, has won 23 championships in the past 18 months.
Diane also has experience showing horses at leading competitions with her daughter Kelly.
