Budding chefs got a cookery masterclass from one of Bradford’s top curry masters yesterday.

Mohammed Aslam, the managing director of the Aagrah group of restaurants, delivered the class to students from Bradford College’s International Food Academy (IFA).

He showed them how to cook a perfect curry.

Mr Aslam is the chief patron of the IFA and his family run the UK’s largest chain of Kashmiri restaurants.

He said: “Bradford College and the IFA are doing a tremendous job in developing young local aspiring chefs who can go on to realise their dream. I am delighted to have the opportunity of working with these young students and to be part of their development plan.”

The IFA plans to develop a new generation of inspiring young chefs to fill the skills shortage in Asian restaurants.

Restaurateurs throughout the country are said to be facing an unprecedented ‘curry crisis’ and are struggling to find skilled chefs due to a tightening of immigration laws.

Meanwhile, four of Bradford’s Asian restaurants will be joining forces for one night to prepare and cook signature dishes featured in their award-winning restaurants.

Prashad, Shimla Spice and Kiplings will join the Aagrah and the team at the IFA on April 23 in a first for the college, city, wider community and beyond.

The Pop-up Restaurant is part of the IFA’s ongoing commitment to address the curry crisis.
