Arts and culture lovers are going to be spoiled for choice with the official opening of Bradford City Park on Saturday – with work by street artist Banksy on show.

Bradford Council is providing a huge array of family-friendly street theatre, music and entertainment in the park from 2pm, and arts groups are also going to be showcasing their work.

Bradford 1 Gallery in the Centenary Square building will be unveiling the exhibition Street Art: Contemporary Prints from the V&A, which includes pieces by high-profile artists such as Banksy, D*Face and Shepard Fairey.

The nearby Impressions Gallery will host a photography walk around City Park, with participants able to upload their photos to appear on the Big Screen.

Mike Cowlam, Bradford Council’s assistant director for economic development, said: “There is a huge amount of creative talent in Bradford which City Park is tapping into and the launch event on Saturday is providing a great focal point.

“With the Alhambra Theatre and National Media Museum so close by, as well as other galleries and exhibition spaces in the Centenary Square building, City Park really lends itself to culture lovers everywhere.

“The new Life Online gallery at the National Media Museum is a world first and its terrific timing for it to be opening to the public just days after City Park, another unique Bradford attraction, is launched.”

The Sound of Two Songs exhibition, featuring photographs of Poland by Mark Power, will also be on display.

Arts organisation Fabric will be holding an exhibition of work by Bradford College students in its Pop Up art space in the Centenary Square building.

Hand Made in Bradford, a new retail and exhibition space for makers and artists at 1 Tyrrel St (formerly Zavvi), will also open its doors for the first time.

There will be more than 20 stallholders selling handmade magazines and staging activities.
