The people of Otley are being asked to lend their voices to a mass shout for £100,000 this weekend.
The shout-out will take place at the Farmers Market at noon on Sunday and will be filmed by Otley Town Partnership.
The group is putting together a video as part of its bid to become one of 12 pilot areas – Portas Pilots – which will receive up to £100,000 to form ‘town teams’ dedicated to revitalising their town centres.
The scheme is named after retail expert Mary Portas, who carried out an independent review into the future of the high street in 2011.
Town partnership chairman Peter Heald said: “A lot of people come to the market anyway, but we'd really like a good turnout on Sunday and for everyone to shout for us at noon, when we’re going to ask everybody to stop what they're doing and shout ‘Come on Mary, Give us the money!’ “The finished video will then be uploaded onto YouTube where people will be able to see it, and those made by other towns, if they search under Portas Bid.”
